Ribbon Bookmarks

Let’s start Back to School month with something so cute but also so necessary! Bookmarks! Often forgotten about, often lost, and always appreciated, the bookmark is a great little “last minute” item you can throw in the backpack, on a notebook, or on the (hopefully finished by now summer reading assignment). Have a team requiring a fundraiser? Combine the school’s colors in ribbon, and get a specialty button to signify that sport! You can have the team members make them because they are that simple!

You will need:

* Ribbon—I used 18” to fit most large books and notebooks

* Button

* Thread and needle (or sewing machine)

* Elastic hair tie (buy in bulk from the $1 store!)

Step One:

Cut the ribbon to your desired length, and then fold over one end and sew on the elastic.

Step Two:

Get out the needle and thread—time to sew on the button.

Step Three:

Wrap around the book, notebook, journal and make your friends envious and demand to know where you got it from! Then watch their look of appreciation when you say “I made it!”

Final Verdict? As mentioned in the intro, great fundraising item, cute teacher’s or coach’s gift. I’ve made several just for myself alone. I mostly use them to keep my spot in my work notebooks.

Kid Friendly? Not little kid friendly, but as soon as you have less fear of them stabbing themselves with a needle, definitely get them involved. Sewing a button on is a valuable life skill people need!

TRieD! And Succeeded!
